Speaking of changing the New York skyline, the latest addition that is currently under construction is the ever so sexy 111 West 57th Street designed by SHoP Architects. Slated for completion in early 2017, it will stand 1,428 feet tall and will be the tallest residential building in the western hemisphere. Due to it’s “slender physique” it will only have one, very private, unit per floor in the main tower. The tower’s façade will be terra cotta and bronze, with a glass curtain along the North side, which will overlook […]
Over the past few years, southern Florida has seen a trend of luxury brands collaborating with real estate developers to build high-end condos. These designer condos provide a custom experience which gives developers an edge in an oversaturated housing market. In the tiny Miami shoreline community of Surfside, the Château Group and FENDI have created a 12-story luxury tower called the FENDI Château Residences, set to open in the spring of 2016. Kristin and I visited this project on our trip to Miami a few weeks ago and were very […]
Between Sixth Avenue and Sullivan Street, the 10 Sullivan Street development has garnered attention and has been likened to the Flatiron Building. What struck me first was that all south facing units from the second floor up have unobstructed views towards the World Trade Center. 10 Sullivan Street, at 16 stories, is the tallest residential building in the historical district of SoHo. It has 20 units, including four townhouses and a $45 million penthouse with a pool and fourth-level outdoor space. Residents of the development will enjoy amenities such as […]
While in Miami for the Formula E races this month, I was able to check out the 1 Hotel & Homes South Beach just before the launch. I was impressed by the way nature was brought indoors with the use of plants, driftwood, water, and huge windows. The first property of the 1 Hotels brand, they opened their doors on Wednesday and they are already redefining what guests and residents have come to expect of luxury lifestyle in Miami. The eco-friendly project, spearheaded by Starwood Chairman and CEO, Barry Sternlicht, […]
by Bo Poulsen Last Sunday was a beautiful day in the city. I managed to take the day off and head over to the Architectural Digest Expo on the Hudson River to see the latest trends in Home design. Was great to see my friends from Blu Homes back this year representing their eco-friendly prefab homes. Am hoping to have an opportunity to work with them in the city soon as I see great potential in what they are doing. Unfortunately there was little new in terms of sustainable design […]
It’s great to see all of the Passive House (Passivhaus) construction happening around New York City as detailed in this New York Times article published yesterday. Check it out to learn more about some of the Passive Homes in NYC neighborhoods such as the Upper West Side, Cobble Hill, Harlem, Carroll Gardens, and Bushwick. As you may know by now, my wife and I are in the process of retrofitting our Ditmas Park home to Passive House standards. The costs to build to Passive House standards are very close to typical […]
Taking away their kitschy attempts at replicating European cities, you’ll see that China is at the forefront of modern architecture and we’re seeing some of the most interesting and far-reaching designs coming out of there today. I’ve always said sustainable design should = beautiful design for it to be truly successful. Traditional fireplaces suck out the heat from homes through the chimney and are highly inefficient. Here is a gorgeous alternative I’ll be using in my own home and that can go into any New York apartment even without a chimney. Check out the full line of Cocoon Fireplaces here .
